If there were Oscars for hotels, afterwards Nick Jones should get one for this near-perfect origination in Soho, home, as it happens, of the British movie industry. Like the most appropriate sort of film, it is engaging, beautifully crafted and looks gorgeous. And similar to the most appropriate sort of film, I didn"t wish it to finish and I wish to see it again. It could even turn a road residence version of "Doctor Zhivago", to that I returned 9 times and from that I had to be helped, tears uncontrollably, on each occasion.

Take the rooms. If I longed for to show someone a unequivocally successful road residence room, I would lead them here. Neither outwardly intelligent nor boringly traditional, they are cool nonetheless timeless, balmy nonetheless spoiling, flashy to simulate the Georgian locale residence that contains them. Either handsomely panelled or prettily wallpapered, they have huge, superb beds piled high with pillows, and bathrooms tiled in black and white, with big bottles of Cowshed products, a play full of well-behaved extras, and deliciously soft bathrobes (not those complicated towelling ones that most building you when you put them on).

In the bedrooms, the duration touches go on with a coronet rack and rail for garments (little else in the approach of storage though: reduction point) and china containers for coffee, tea and homemade biscuits. The buffet reveals a well-stocked minibar with nominal divert and water, a kettle and coffee pot, hairdryer and straighteners.

The television, inset in to the wall, has Sky Plus and there"s a Bose iPod wharf by the bed. My "Medium" room has a rolltop bath in an alcove, and a pot of grape hyacinths on the executive table. "Old fashioned" (read sensible) touches embody a Roberts radio, a primer warning clock, a room key and great old light switches.

My weeping Doctor Zhivago impulse comes in the late sunrise when I listen to the dreaded words: "madam, we contingency ask you to empty your room now".

You think I"ve lost the plot. But what cheers me about this place isn"t only the moreishness of the rooms, but the actuality that a code new, severely intelligent city hotel, from the makers of Babington and Soho House, looks to the roots of road residence keeping, to the past, and to the surroundings, to emanate a place that feels glamorous, but additionally elementary and but gimmicks. Robin Hutson, with Hotel du Vin, and Tim and Kit Kemp, with Firmdale Hotels, have already championed the trend; Jones and his partner Richard Caring are stability it.

So how most does all this cost? Not as well most if you"re propitious a couple of bedrooms sell each day for 95, in accord with by London standards, and the cost of the nearest Travelodge. They are little (literally: they are even called "Tiny"), but they are so honeyed and deftly versed that you will not, for a moment, complain. Smallest of all is the Broom Cupboard, with turn staircase: honeymooners will love it.
